uPDATE - WEEK 11

It seems every week is a mixed bag lately, with one side winning and the other losing - there has only been one 'double victory' weekend so far this season, back in Week Three. With the half-way point of the season now upon us perhaps it's time for that to change!

This week the 1st XI put in a better performance to defeat lowly S&L Corby. It was mainly the bowlers who earned the plaudits, all four seamers used being very economical. Rosco led the way with three early scalps on his way to 3-25, Beano bowled 15 overs straight through for 3-32 (with five maidens) and Livers picked up two at each end of the innings (and six maidens). There was still time for a couple of dropped catches though, from Boycie and Balders. The total of 116-8 looked imminently chaseable but the misfiring top order struggled again, Rosco out second ball and a Heyford collapse on the cards at 44-4. However, former and current captains Leggie and Livers combined in a superb partnership to take the score past 100, and even Livers dismissal for 39 couldn't stop the momentum then. Victory was secured with 5 wickets and 16 overs in hand, Leggie finishing on an excellent 41*.

The 2nd XI bowled reasonably well at home to Horton House, taking wickets at regular intervals, but making things harder for themselves with an amazing six dropped catches! Pecky took two economical wickets on his return from injury, while young Kyle Browne and not-as-young Andy Sharp also picked up two each. In the reply Lacey emulated Rosco in being dismissed for a duck early on, but Sharpy and the returning Linnell struck 20s each to build some momentum. However, wickets started to fall and continued to do so, only Rory with an excellent 32* holding things together and trying in vain to chase the target with injured last man Dion. They finished 29 runs short with eight overs left unused.

** The Transfer Window is now OPEN!! **

From now until Friday 8th July you are permitted to make a maximum of TWO changes to your team(s). Your changes must be communicated to Ross before the deadline or the changes will not be permitted. Your team must still have six players and not exceed a total value of 45. Players removed from your team will immediately cease to earn points. Players added to your team will start to earn you points from this Saturday 9th July (full information and player 'profiles' can still be found on the ‘Rules’ tab above).

N.B. Jamie Apps has now sadly left the club to go back and play for Kislingbury, for which we wish him the best of luck. Consequently he will not be able to earn any more fantasy points for us this year! Therefore, if you have selected Jamie in your team (he currently appears in eight teams) you will be allowed to transfer him out IN ADDITION to the two standard transfers permitted above. Whether you make just this one transfer, or two, or the full allotment of three the same rules apply in terms of your total team value not exceeding 45.

If you do not let me know which player you wish to draft in to replace Jamie, I will select one for you at random!

PLAYER OF THE WEEK - DAVE LIVERMORE

Skipper Livers led from the front again on Saturday with ball and bat. He produced two fiery bowling spells at the beginning and end of the Corby innings, taking 2-29 from his fifteen overs with six maidens, and could easily have had more wickets. Then, when the side were struggling at 44-4 he came in to steady the ship in a partnership of 64 with Leggie, departing for 39 only when the target was almost achieved. Some more captain's performances like that in the second half of the season may well help the side move in the right direction up the table.

Batting: 39        Bowling: 32        Fielding: 0        Other: 12

TOTAL: 83 points

Overall Livers is now in the lead again with 523 points, a figure that could well see him drafted into a few teams during the transfer window. Rosco has also passed the 500 point mark, while others who could see themselves in a few more teams come the weekend are Al Lovell, Ed Rogers, Andy Sharp (amazingly only in two teams currently!) and Laurence Buck who is the highest scorer of the players valued at five.

MANAGER OF THE WEEK

Eleven weeks in and we have our first 'manageress' of the season, Suzanne Legge securing the prize as one of only eleven teams who passed 200 points for the weekend. The three highest scorers of the week in Livers, husband Simon, and Beano all appeared in her team with Rory and Ed also contributing.

LEAGUE TABLES

Yet again the top three remains unchanged and are now starting to pull clear of the chasing pack. Ed is a comfortable 77 points in the lead ahead of Beano who is 96 points ahead of David, in turn 76 points ahead of fourth. All three teams contain the current top three players - Livers, Rosco and Al - but then there are a few differences in player selection that account for their current positions. Will either man look to make any changes in the transfer window, and if so will they have an impact on the standings by the end of next weekend?!

Elsewhere Stan and Leggie both pass 2000 points and move back up to joint fourth, pushing Lacey and Livers back down again. Courtesy of her high-scoring week Suzanne is the biggest riser of the week, up 12 places to 16th, sitting just behind the leading lady Jade, who is in 13th. Coincidentally she has exactly the same points tally as hubby Matt, who was just behind Suzanne for team of the week. Only one other team had a double figure rise this week; Boycie's sixth team (!) moved up ten places but still sits down in the bottom half of the table. Two of his other teams are trying hard to rival Dion for the wooden spoon, and Big G now seems to be fighting his customary battle of the basement, all three of his teams lying in the bottom ten. Perhaps the transfer window has come just at the right time for these teams as they look to climb up the table...

Jade is back in the lead of the Ladies table again, pushing Kelly down to third. Suzanne's winning week sees her rise to a season-high second position, 56 points behind Jade. Sarah and Chris Pardon are still challenging these top three in 4th and 5th, and again the transfers made (or not made!) this weekend could see things start to change slightly going forward...
